Water leaking from an indoor air conditioning unit: what to do

Air conditioning can produce condensate, but water reaching a wall, furniture or the floor needs attention. If there is an unintended indoor leak, stop using the system and protect the area without approaching electrical hazards or opening the equipment.

Describe exactly where the water appears

The most useful detail is the visible location: one corner of the wall unit, the pipe entry, a grille or a stain in the ceiling. A general photograph and a closer view of the visible point can help locate the issue without dismantling anything.

Explain whether it started during operation, after switching off or following rain. Do not open a suspended ceiling or place a ladder beside a wet surface. If closer observation is unsafe, describe what you can see from floor level and leave access to the professional.

Condensation does not make every leak normal

Samsung distinguishes condensate formation from faults that allow water to reach an unintended location. Items that may need checking include the drain, the unit's positioning and a condensate pump where one is fitted.

That list cannot establish a cause from a photograph. Ducted units, cassettes and wall splits may have different drainage arrangements. It is also unwise to assume that a ceiling stain must come from the air conditioning without inspecting the location and other possible sources.

Avoid fixes that hide the problem

Do not dismantle the tray, push wires into pipes or use chemicals to try to clear a drain. Do not seal an opening in the unit to stop water escaping. This could divert it somewhere else or make the subsequent assessment more difficult.

Move vulnerable belongings only if you can do so without approaching wet electrical components. If water reaches sockets or wiring, or the appliance behaves abnormally, keep clear and request professional assistance. Power should be isolated only from a safe, familiar point.

Prepare the visit and record the outcome

Provide the model, approximate installation date and details of recent work to ceilings, walls or drainage. Mention a condensate pump only if you already know one is fitted; there is no need to search for it. Keep photographs showing the initial condition.

Ask for the inspection findings and corrective work to be explained. Where paint or finishes also need repair, distinguish that work from resolving the source of the water. Before resuming normal use, request the relevant operating and follow-up instructions for the equipment.
