Basic air conditioning installation: what to agree before accepting

Identify exactly what is supplied

The quotation should list the model, the units forming the system and the included controls. For a multisplit, check quantities of each indoor model; for a cassette, check the corresponding panel. A catalogue photograph helps identify a range but does not replace the equipment list.

Where a product is marked price on enquiry, request the current price for your selected composition. The availability or price of another capacity should not automatically be transferred to your proposal. Keep the version of the quotation that you finally accept.

Agree positions and connection routes

Connections between indoor and outdoor equipment, drainage and access to the installation position should be defined. A straight-line measurement is not always the route that can actually be used. Corners, doors, changes in level and existing features all matter.

Ask which trunking will remain visible and whether the proposed passages require opening or reinstating finishes. There is no universal connection length that can be assumed included in every property. Applicable lengths, materials and conditions should appear in the individual proposal.

Distinguish installation from adaptation

Fitting equipment to compatible existing services is different from building a new distribution system. Ducted installations may require ducts, grilles, return routes, zoning or ceiling work. With other formats, difficult access or drainage requiring adaptation may also change the scope.

Ask for necessary additional work to be described separately before you approve it. This distinguishes what the equipment provides from what the property needs to accommodate it. The aim is to identify relevant work for your installation, rather than add a generic list of extras.

Agree commissioning and handover

Handover should let you identify what has been installed and use the basic controls. Agree the planned checks and commissioning, along with the documents you will receive. Ask where to find the manual and how to access components that users may clean in accordance with its instructions.

If an old system is being removed, clarify who will remove it and what that work includes. It is also useful to agree which areas must be cleared on installation day and who will complete any outstanding finishes.

Review the total before confirmation

Compare the complete price, including taxes and agreed items. If an assessment identifies an adaptation, request an updated proposal before authorising it. An enquiry form helps prepare that assessment; it does not book an installation or take payment.
