Multisplit 3×1: understanding capacity across three rooms

Three indoor units do not make their individual size labels a total output available at all times. A 3×1 multisplit needs an approved combination and a capacity assessment matched to how the rooms are used.

Identify all four units

A 3×1 proposal should name the outdoor unit and all three indoor units, including references and quantities. Sharing a brand, or having an outdoor unit with three connection positions, does not by itself establish that the proposed arrangement is suitable.

Johnson’s MultiComfort3 documentation includes tables for different combinations. These allow the offered system to be checked without simply transferring figures from an indoor unit paired with a different outdoor unit. Keep the identification with the quotation and the final equipment documents.

Read the figure for the actual combination

One catalogue example combines a J3FM62V2 outdoor unit with two LICEO25NT indoor units and one LICEO35NT. The official table records 6.21 kW cooling for that combination. This belongs to the identified arrangement; it should not be replaced by adding the indoor units’ commercial size labels.

Nor is it a promise of an identical output share to three rooms under every condition. Ask for the selection to be checked against room requirements and the manufacturer’s information about the complete system’s operation.

Explain which rooms run together

Think about specific situations: three bedrooms occupied at night, a living room with two bedrooms, or an office used during the day. Identify which rooms operate simultaneously and which are usually switched off. This is more useful than simply saying that you want three air conditioners.

Mention rooms with strong sun exposure, large windows or noticeably different usage. The installer can assess different indoor units for individual spaces, while staying within a compatible combination and an outdoor capacity appropriate for the demand.

Review routes and control options

Each indoor unit needs connections and a drainage arrangement. In a finished home, sketch all three routes before deciding on the outdoor position. This makes visible trunking, room-to-room passages and areas needing adaptation easier to understand before work begins.

Controllers and features also need confirmation for the selected references. If remote operation, schedules or different requirements between rooms matter, put them in your enquiry. Do not assume a function applies across a range because it appears on one indoor model.

Compare the system, not the 3×1 headline

Two 3×1 proposals can differ in capacity, indoor units, accessories and installation work. Examine those differences before choosing on total price. If model references change during quotation preparation, ask for the documented combination to be updated as well.

  • One outdoor unit and three indoor units with references and quantities.
  • Capacity stated for the verified combination.
  • Simultaneous use, installation routes and controls covered in the proposal.
